British livestock farmers need more backing from Europe if they are to stay in business, the NFU has told delegates at an industry debate in Brussels.

Knee-jerk regulation, trade liberalisation and high input costs are among the long-term pressures threatening British farmers, warned Alistair Mackintosh, the NFU livestock board chairman.
