Raising a Smile in the Devil's Kitchen!
22nd November, 2011
Smailes Goldie has helped to raise over £3,500 for the Smile Foundation after taking part in the charity's annual Devil's Kitchen event.
A team of eight from Smailes Goldie battled it out with Yorkshire Bank at Hull College to see who would become the Devil's Kitchen champions for the evening. Calculators and overdrafts were drawn at 50 paces and exchanged for spatulas and frying pans, as the two teams cooked a sumptuous 3 course meal to the delight of all guests.
Unfortunately, when the scores were counted, Smailes Goldie was pipped at the post as Yorkshire Bank took away the trophy!
Mark Sharpley, Partner and chef for the night, said:
"The amount raised was brilliant and everyone had a fantastic time on the night. I can’t believe we lost by a whisker but it was all worth it when you see how much money will be going to great causes in our region. I would recommend any organisation to take part. We'll definitely be back for more next year!"
The Smile Foundation was set up two years ago to help positively change the lives of people exclusively in Hull and East Yorkshire. This year the foundation is raising money for The Hull Memory Clinic, supporting people who suffer from memory loss from initial diagnosis onwards, Hornsea Inshore Rescue, an independently run voluntary inshore rescue which cover the majority of the Holderness coastline, and finally Sunshine House, who provide an invaluable nursing resource which ranges from respite care through to end of life care for children with life limiting illnesses.
Andy Barber, Charity Manager for the Smile Foundation, said:
"I just wanted to say a huge thank you for a fantastic evening at Devil's Kitchen. We are receiving some amazing feedback and in addition to the funds raised we have generated a number of new relationships to help the projects we are currently supporting. The total funds raised has now reached £3622.50!"
