It is with great sadness that I have to report the death of John Wilkinson on 26th September, John only having been diagnosed with cancer a few weeks earlier. The speed of it all beggars belief.
John joined the firm in 1967 and became a partner in 1975. I was in partnership with him from 1983 and it has been my privilege and that of my partners to have worked with and befriended such a kind, respected and, above all, well-liked person, attributes which have been commented on in the many messages the firm and I have received. John was for many years staff partner and, after the retirement of Peter Robins, managing partner until shortly before John’s retirement in 2011. He played a fundamental part in the development of Smailes Goldie and the building at Regent’s Court, which was his project, is one of his many legacies to the firm.
Unfortunately in these strange times few were able to attend his funeral but I know we will all privately wish to pay our respects to a man who has done so much for this firm and the business community in this region. In lieu of flowers, Johns family have set up a just giving page in celebration of his life with all donations going to Cancer Research, donations can be left here:
