Smailes Goldie Group has exciting opportunities available to join our thriving accounts team in our Kirkbymoorside and Pickering offices. Focusing on owner-managed businesses across various sectors, you will be a self-motivated team player with a flexible approach to work.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparing and reviewing statutory financial statements as well as preparing associated tax computations over a varied portfolio of clients. This includes companies, limited liability partnerships, partnerships and sole traders.
  • Support the supervision, coaching and development of trainees.
  • Preparation and review of VAT returns.
  • Assisting with client queries.
  • Preparation and submission of other statutory returns and filings.
  • Work closely with our tax and audit teams as appropriate.
  • Complete work accurately and in a timely and cost-effective manner, working to agreed deadlines.
  • Proactive management of your workload and the need for task escalation where appropriate.
  • Always demonstrate professionalism, particularly when representing the firm off-site and through communication methods.
  • Undertake continuous training, self-learning, and development by attending appropriate training programs, technical research/reading and keeping up to date with relevant issues within the profession.

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate will have several years of experience working in practice and be either qualified or part-qualified (ACA/ACCA or AAT). Or, qualified by experience working in a similar role within an accountancy practice.

The ability to use a range of software packages including Excel, Word, Outlook, Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, Farmplan, Key Prime, and IRIS would be an advantage.
