With a general practice background and a keen interest in tax planning, Steve is well equipped to advise his portfolio of family-owned businesses on all aspects of their finances and the ever-growing raft of tax and business legislation.
Steve takes a rounded approach to tax planning and strategic thinking, advising both the business and its owners to achieve the best overall outcome. He is always happy to speak to his clients about their business worries and future plans, as well as initiating conversations, should an opportunity arise to grow their business or legitimately reduce the tax burden.
Having worked at Smailes Goldie for nearly 20 years, Steve has helped many start-ups grow to become successful and sustainable businesses. In this time, he has also supported many established businesses in achieving their potential and, for some, realising their value through well planned exit strategies.
Over the last few years, he has increasingly been involved in forensic accounting, working alongside Jeremy Allison. Steve has been instructed to act as an expert witness in various matrimonial disputes, loss of profit claims, share valuations, fraud investigations and minority shareholder disputes.
Steve trained and qualified at Smailes Goldie before becoming a partner in 2012.
