Scammers Targeting VAT Registered Businesses

Scammers manipulate and submit form VAT 484 to HMRC to change legitimate bank details to theirs.

Once a repayment return is processed and verified by HMRC, funds are directed to the fraudsters’ accounts instead of the legitimate ones.

Stay Vigilant: VAT registered businesses must be on high alert as scammers are actively targeting them. - Protect Your Accounts: Safeguard Government Gateway credentials and regularly monitor bank account details associated with your VAT returns. - Verify Changes: Double-check any alterations to bank details via your Government Gateway. - Report Suspicious Activity: Promptly report any unauthorised changes or suspicious activity to HMRC to prevent financial losses.
