Smailes Goldie Group, the Hull-based accountancy and business advisory firm, which sponsored the Community category at the Hull Daily Mail Sporting Champions Awards has congratulated the winner, St Paul’s Boxing Club on its success.
The boxing club was named the winner at a glittering ceremony on Wednesday 22 January 2020, which saw Smailes Goldie Group Partner, Mark Sharpley, present the prize to the club.
“The Hull Daily Mail Sporting Champions Awards are a tremendous event to recognise a thriving sporting environment in Hull and the surrounding areas.
“It never ceases to amaze those attending how wide-ranging our sporting champions are in terms of their chosen sports, ranging from international para-swimming to Olympic-level boxing, as well as local junior schools competing in 34 different team sports across the city,” said Mark Sharpley.
A highlight for those aspiring sporting stars attending was the keynote message from Tommy Coyle, the local boxing legend, who had recently returned from a championship fight at Maddison Square Garden in New York.
“He had the audience hanging on his every word, saying ‘never give in, be true to yourself, and be as focused as possible on your personal goals, as they are achievable’,” added Mark.
A number of local professional players from Hull City, Hull Kingston Rovers and Hull FC, adding to the feeling of support for those challenging at the highest levels of their chosen sports.
“At Smailes Goldie Group, we recognise that those taking part in sport are more likely to be confident in the work environment and we encourage all our colleagues to join our own teams – of which we have several – support charity runs and walks, as well as taking part in coaching.
“This activity helps maintain a healthy outlook that we value in our people.
“We look forward to next year’s event and congratulate all the winners.”
