The firm is primary sponsor and shirt sponsor of the squad, which has been established this year to represent the North of England.
The squad is currently preparing for the Over-35s Regional Championships, which will take place in Sheffield over the weekend of 17 and 18 August 2019 and will see the North squad take on teams from the South, East, West, Midlands, and Armed Forces.
The squad has already been through a trials process and has been preparing for the tournament with training sessions in Harrogate, Manchester and Sheffield. Players in the squad include Yorkshire league players, National League Players and current Over-35s England Internationals.
Gareth Ikin, a Senior at Smailes Goldie Group, is the squad’s Head Coach. Gareth has strong credentials for the role, having coached the England ladies’ Master Hockey Team to World Cup gold in Barcelona last year.
He is joined by Smailes Goldie Group client, Rick Dewhirst, as the squad’s Player/Manager.
Gareth said: “It is great to be able to represent the North in this way and our preparations are now well advanced for the Over-35s Regional Championships in August.
“We are delighted that Smailes Goldie Group is providing sponsorship that will enable the squad to compete to its full potential.”
Martin Overfield, a Partner at Smailes Goldie Group, added: “It is wonderful to be able to lend our support to the team in this way as they represent the North at the Regional Championships.
“We are all very proud of Gareth for his hockey successes, which he has achieved alongside the challenging training to become a Chartered Accountant that he completed earlier this year.
“We all wish Gareth, Rick and the squad the best of luck in August.”
Smailes Goldie Group’s hockey support is not confined to the field-based variant of the game. The firm is also the title sponsor of the Smailes Goldie Hull Pirates ice hockey team – an agreement it renewed recently – and the team’s captain, Jamie Chilcott is also a Manager at the firm.
