What does this role entail?

As a Tax Assistant you will support the delivery of personal tax compliance services for a varied portfolio of individual clients. You will prepare tax returns, assist with HMRC enquiries, build trusted client relationships and develop your technical knowledge with support from experienced colleagues. With no two clients the same, the role offers variety, responsibility and valuable opportunities to learn from day one.

What are your responsibilities:

  • Take a proactive approach to managing your workload, prioritising tasks effectively and ensuring that both firm and client deadlines are met.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships by providing a consistently high standard of service.
  • Assist the team with their portfolio of individual clients and their personal tax affairs.
  • Prepare tax returns for a varied client base, including income tax and capital gains tax calculations, rental accounts and self-employed accounts.
  • Support HMRC enquiries and compliance checks.
  • Manage and update workflows and assigned tasks accurately.
  • Prepare initial draft correspondence for clients.
  • Agree time budgets with managers and work effectively to achieve them.
  • Keep your knowledge current through ongoing learning and professional development, adapting work where required and helping to keep clients informed.

Skills/Experience

  • A genuine interest in developing a career in tax services.
  • A hardworking, proactive approach and a willingness to learn.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to build positive relationships with colleagues and clients.
  • Good organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage priorities and deadlines.
  • Three A-C grade A Levels, or equivalent qualifications.
  • Previous experience in tax or a similar finance role is welcomed but not essential. We value potential as well as experience.

Our commitment to you:

  • Progression: Career progression and personal development opportunities.
  • Collaboration: A friendly, inclusive and supportive team environment.
  • Reward/Recognition: A competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Work Life Balance: Flexible working arrangements that support work life balance.
