Ben Thiim

Ben previously trained and qualified with Smailes Goldie before relocating to London for further life and work experience.

Whilst in London, Ben worked in the tax advisory team of a top 20 UK national firm of tax advisors and accountants. In this role, Ben focused on capital taxes, the UK taxation of international clients and their associated offshore structures, employee share schemes and also investor tax reliefs for start-up companies raising private equity.

Ben then moved to the London headquarters of a top 10 international firm of tax advisors and accountants to join their international private wealth team, where he focused purely on capital taxes and the UK taxation of international clients and their associated offshore structures.

Ben re-joined Smailes Goldie in 2017 and was made Director of Capital Taxes. In April 2021 Ben was appointed as Partner. Ben focuses on UK capital taxes, trusts, taxation of landed estates and agricultural clients, business succession, the UK taxation of international clients, employee share schemes and corporate reconstructions.

Ben is a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (‘STEP’). Ben also holds the STEP advanced certificate for the UK taxation of international clients.
