Our team are celebrating a well-deserved rest after successfully crossing the finish line of our month-long ‘We Walk for Yorkshire’ challenge in aid of Yorkshire Cancer Research.
The initiative, which encourages participants to stay active and outdoors, saw more than 30 members of our team from across six of our offices come together with a collective goal: to walk at least 3,000 miles throughout May.
Setting out with an ambitious target to raise a minimum of £3,000, we smashed both our mileage and fundraising goals. In total, we walked 3,593 miles and raised £4,882!
A central highlight of the challenge took place during Mental Health Awareness Week, which saw a specially designed baton passed between our firm’s regional offices.
The wonderful pupils of Braeburn Primary and Nursery School in Scarborough, enthusiastically designed, created the fantastic baton, and managed to incorporate our logo, the charity’s name and the Yorkshire rose in the design.
Nicki Shipley, Partner at Smailes Goldie, commented:
“I am incredibly proud of our team for completing this challenge. Accumulating over 3000 miles is a staggering feat, but everyone quite literally took it in their stride.
“We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the children from Braeburn School. Meeting them was a joy, and their beautiful artwork on our baton provided a wonderful boost to the team as it was passed between our offices during Mental Health Awareness Week.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank every member of our staff for their hard work, as well as Yorkshire Cancer Research for their incredible support. Raising £4,882 is an exceptional achievement that will make a real difference, and everyone involved should be immensely proud.”
Isabel McKenzie a spokesperson for Yorkshire Cancer Research, added: “We were absolutely thrilled to welcome Smailes Goldie back for their second year taking part in the ‘We Walk for Yorkshire’ challenge; securing an incredible third place on our team leaderboard is a fantastic achievement, and the vital funds they have raised will directly support life-saving research right here in the region”
With the walking boots now safely packed away, Swe want to express our deepest gratitude to the clients, family and friends whose generous donations helped the firm surpass both its fitness and fundraising targets.
