Staff and partners at leading accountancy firm Smailes Goldie are celebrating having been named as a finalist in the Best Place to Work category at the Hull & East Yorkshire Business Awards 2025.

This shortlisting at one of the region’s leading awards recognises the firm’s long-standing commitment to its people, work culture and the training of next-generation accountants and tax advisers.

Smailes Goldie has built its success on more than 125 years of expertise, but it’s the firm’s people-first approach that truly sets it apart and impressed the judges.

With offices across Hull, North Lincolnshire and North Yorkshire, Smailes Goldie prides itself on being more than just a place of work.

The firm fosters a supportive, collaborative culture that enables every team member to thrive, both professionally and personally.

Career development is a cornerstone of Smailes Goldie’s ethos, which is why the firm was recently ranked second nationally in the UK Top 50 SME Apprenticeship Employers 2025.

Speaking about the firm’s shortlisting, Smailes Goldie’s Managing Partner, Ian Lamb, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be named a finalist in the Best Place to Work category, especially as it comes hot on the heels of our previous second place national ranking for our work supporting apprentices.

“Our people are at the heart of everything we do and this recognition reflects the culture we’ve worked hard to build one that values wellbeing, inclusion and opportunity at every level.

“We’re incredibly proud of our team and the way they support each other and our clients. Whether someone has been here for two years or twenty, we want Smailes Goldie to be a place where they feel empowered to do their best work and enjoy doing it.”

Looking ahead, Smailes Goldie remains committed to training the next generation of accountants, tax professionals and business advisers.

It has recently welcomed 15 new trainees, including school leavers, college leavers and graduates, who are currently studying towards professional qualifications, such as AAT, ACA, ATT, CTA and CIPP.

The winners of the Hull & East Yorkshire Business Awards 2025 will be at a ceremony on 20th November, which will celebrate the outstanding achievements of the region’s business community.
