One of Yorkshire’s leading accountancy firms, Smailes Goldie, is celebrating the success of their client Econ Engineering, which has recently been acquired by US-based Alamo Group in one of the region’s largest reported transactions of 2026.

Working in partnership with the team at Andrew Jackson Solicitors LLP, Smailes Goldie helped Econ Engineering achieve a successful sale, representing an important milestone in the history of the company, which is the UK’s largest manufacturer of winter and road maintenance vehicle bodies.

The acquisition will help support the next stage of the company’s development as part of Alamo Group.

Smailes Goldie’s Managing Partner, Ian Lamb, supported by Nathan Lutkin, advised the shareholders of Econ Engineering on the transaction, offering support with the corporate finance and taxation aspects of the transaction.

Ian said: “This is one of the most significant deals in Yorkshire this year and we are pleased that we were able to support the shareholders of Econ Engineering as they begin the next phase of their growth.

“It was a real pleasure to work alongside Andrew Funnell and the wider team at Andrew Jackson, whose legal expertise, dedication, and collaborative approach helped bring the transaction to a successful conclusion.

Jonathan Lupton, Managing Director of Econ Engineering, commented: “We are pleased to join Alamo Group and believe the combination provides an excellent foundation for the continued development of Econ. I want to thank Andrew Jackson and Smailes Goldie for their expertise, commitment and timely, comprehensive help and advice throughout.”

Smailes Goldie would like to thank Jonathan Lupton and his fellow shareholders for placing their trust in its services and has congratulated everyone involved in completing this landmark transaction.

“We wish Econ Engineering, its team and Alamo Group every success for the future,” added Ian.
